The last book in the saga is basically Twilight but from Edward's POV。 and boy did I enjoy it so much more that the Twilight。 It was great to get an extra inside view into the Cullen family and to see the familiar events through someone else's eyes instead of boring Bella's。 The last book in the saga is basically Twilight but from Edward's POV。 and boy did I enjoy it so much more that the Twilight。 It was great to get an extra inside view into the Cullen family and to see the familiar events through someone else's eyes instead of boring Bella's。 。。。more

And the author went into vast details about the whole ordeal! The entire book was Edward explaining his every single thoughts in too much details。 Lots and lots of details! WWAAAAYYYY too much details! It slowed the pace of the story and took away all tension。 I was so glad I was listening to the audiobook and was able to speed up the reading by 2X。 I read most of the book at 1。5X。 I think the audiobook was the way to go for me。 I did like some parts of the book: I loved revisiting Forks and all the characters that I grew up with。 I also liked Bella a bit more in this version。 Seeing Edward’s point of view made her more likable。 But I think the book could have been around 400 pages instead of 600。 That being said, if you are a Twilight fan at heart, I think you’re going to absolutely love this book and all of its nostalgia。 If not, I would NOT recommend this book, or maybe consider the audiobook and speed it up。 。。。more

I read this book because I was intrigued about getting part of the story in Edward's point of view。 It was definitely not as good or interesting as I thought it would be。 There were long stretches where the story was dragged down with Edward's hand wringing over whether he could be with Bella, and for anyone who's read the original series, this is not news。 I just don't think I needed over 600 pages of it。 I read this book because I was intrigued about getting part of the story in Edward's point of view。 It was definitely not as good or interesting as I thought it would be。 There were long stretches where the story was dragged down with Edward's hand wringing over whether he could be with Bella, and for anyone who's read the original series, this is not news。 I just don't think I needed over 600 pages of it。 。。。more

This book is a doozy。 Longer than necessary。 BUT I think it succeeds in its goal。 Here is proof that these vampires don’t just glitter。 It’s dark, the thirst burns, the desires to rip and shred are there。 The depth of instantaneous love unbounded。 And I got to guilty enjoy a car chase in the same model as my car, much more suped up, but of course my inner bad girl loved that!

I have waited a very long time for this book。 At first it was very hard to read as Edward's inner thoughts were very pained。 By the time I got to the baseball game, I was hooked and haven't been able to put it down。 I wish SM would write one for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn。 One for New Moon would be impossible to read。 Knowing his thoughts at the end of Midnight Sun and how determined he is would be so painful to read。 I have waited a very long time for this book。 At first it was very hard to read as Edward's inner thoughts were very pained。 By the time I got to the baseball game, I was hooked and haven't been able to put it down。 I wish SM would write one for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn。 One for New Moon would be impossible to read。 Knowing his thoughts at the end of Midnight Sun and how determined he is would be so painful to read。 。。。more

WAY TOO LONG! I listened to the audiobook and it's 25 hours and only covers the first book。 Cool concept but no one needs this many details。 It makes the story drag。 WAY TOO LONG! 3。5 stars。 I'm going to have to think on this one for awhile。 It's so bizarre reading a book from a series I absolutely loved as a 20 year old and now remember with a bit of a shudder as a 30 year old。 3。5 stars。 I'm going to have to think on this one for awhile。 It's so bizarre reading a book from a series I absolutely loved as a 20 year old and now remember with a bit of a shudder as a 30 year old。 。。。more

LGBT+ rep: noneI mean, I don’t really need to write this, right? I suppose Edward could have read someone’s queer thoughts and Stephanie could have put that in as a last-ditch attempt to add rep (more or less), but I didn’t expect it。 I listened to the audiobook, and mainly out of nostalgia。 Back to queer reads for me!

There is nothing more disappointing than when reality does not measure up to our expectations, and that is exactly how I felt about Midnight Sun after I finished reading it。 It just didn’t measure up。 I actually remember reading the first chapter (maybe two?) of this novel on Stephenie Meyer’s website at the height of the Twilight series’ popularity, and I was enthralled。 My favorite character, Edward, was the narrator and I was seeing my favorite love story at the time from his perspective。 It There is nothing more disappointing than when reality does not measure up to our expectations, and that is exactly how I felt about Midnight Sun after I finished reading it。 It just didn’t measure up。 I actually remember reading the first chapter (maybe two?) of this novel on Stephenie Meyer’s website at the height of the Twilight series’ popularity, and I was enthralled。 My favorite character, Edward, was the narrator and I was seeing my favorite love story at the time from his perspective。 It felt dark, gritty, fresh, and the concept was brilliant to me。。。but 10 or so years later, when Meyer finally published the full text, I can’t say I felt enthralled while reading it。 In fact, I felt drained。 There are two main reasons why I felt that way。 First, the prose is redundant。 Edward has essentially the same thoughts over and over and over for 100s and 100s of pages! He’s tempted by Bella’s blood, he feels crappy about himself, he’s tempted by her smell, he feels crappy about himself, he stays away from her, she gets upset, he talks to his siblings about how he feels, he wants her, and on it goes until about mid-way through the book when the action takes us to places outside of the high school cafeteria。 If his musings added more dimension to his character, I would be all for it, but unfortunately, it just didn’t feel like anything different, and definitely not as dark as the back cover summary promises。 It just felt long to read。 The next reason has nothing to do with Stephenie Meyer’s writing, but more to do with my own internal personal growth。 When I was in my early 20s, the love story of Edward and Bella seemed romantic, “cute,” if you will, but as a woman in my late 30s, I can’t help but feel that his love story is unhealthy and rushed, definitely not an example upon which teenagers should base their visions of relationships。 If this text had actually come out when it was originally written, I definitely would have bought into it more, but now that she waited so long to publish it, I cannot rate it any higher than 3 stars (and those 3 were only earned purely on the nostalgia factor)。 Having said that, if someone has never read the Twilight series, then this text might actually be better than Twilight itself。 It does show Edward’s relationships with his siblings in more detail and if you’re into this kind of teen/light sci-fi, then it might be your jam。 But alas, if you’re not new to the series, I would say to not waste your time。 Earlier this weekend, I was explaining to my fiance how I felt reading this book, and he said, “it sounds like it’s a chore to read,” and that’s exactly how I would describe it。 Not a pleasure, but a chore, and no one wants to do chores during their free time, and certainly not a tired English teacher。 。。。more

The voice droned on too much。 I zipped and skipped some of the self-flagellation by B &E。 Edward's perspective was the tiring hero saves damsel trope。 I kept looking for the action, the rest of the family felt more layered and interesting than the main characters。 The voice droned on too much。 I zipped and skipped some of the self-flagellation by B &E。 Edward's perspective was the tiring hero saves damsel trope。 I kept looking for the action, the rest of the family felt more layered and interesting than the main characters。 。。。more

I personally really enjoyed this new-ish addition to the twilight story。 I think what I enjoyed the most was seeing Bella through Edwards's eyes, and hearing the thoughts and feelings of everyone in the story that Bella, to be frank, was not a reliable narrater for。 While in the midst of reading the book though, I did in fact had to take a couple breaks from the amount of "whining" Edward did in the story。 Yet that was to be expected if you're familar with the character at all。 Any Twihard at he I personally really enjoyed this new-ish addition to the twilight story。 I think what I enjoyed the most was seeing Bella through Edwards's eyes, and hearing the thoughts and feelings of everyone in the story that Bella, to be frank, was not a reliable narrater for。 While in the midst of reading the book though, I did in fact had to take a couple breaks from the amount of "whining" Edward did in the story。 Yet that was to be expected if you're familar with the character at all。 Any Twihard at heart would enjoy this。 。。。more

I listened to this whole thing on audiobook out of pure spite。 I have never rolled my eyes so much during a book。 How many times will Edward rattle off a car name? How many times with Bella “jut her chin up defiantly”?! How many times will they get it on? The answer to that last one is NO TIMES。 Anyway, have fun! I am glad to have gotten through all 26 hours of this audio book and return to my normal life。
